South Hill was founded in 2006 by Philip and Sheryl Jones. After numerous years growing grapes and making wine in Nelson, New Zealand, we were motivated to find a place where we could grow cool climate grapes in a climate similar to New Zealand. The Columbia Gorge viticultural area provided that opportunity. Underwood Mountain, located at 1850-foot altitude and above the Columbia River, is definitely a cool climate… perfect for earlier ripening varieties.
