Over 400 wineries, wine tasting rooms, and almost 60,000 acres of vineyards make up Sonoma County, California’s wine producing region, that stretches from the Pacific Coast to the Mayacamas Mountains. Sonoma County is home to 17 American Viticultural Areas (AVAs, or appellations), each having its own distinctive characteristics.
Being just north of Marin County, and bordering the San Francisco Bay in areas, Sonoma County is an easy wine region to explore from the San Francisco Bay Area. Featuring many smaller and family run wineries than it’s cousin, Napa Valley, to the east, Sonoma County is a very approachable region to explore for the just yourself, or with family and friends. Iconic wineries include Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery and Francis Ford Coppola Winery.
Top restaurants include Madrona Manor in Healdsburg, Farmhouse Inn & Restaurant in Forestville and Terrapin Creek Café in Bodega Bay. And hotel accommodations include the Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa.
