About Napa Valley

Over 500 wineries and wine tasting rooms make up the Napa Valley renowned California wine-producing region, that lies just north of San Francisco, making it an easy and wonderful region of exploration from the San Francisco Bay Area.

Even half-day trips are an easy jaunt from San Francisco. Wineries both large and small, from family-run estates to larger landmarks such as Robert Mondavi Winery and Opus One, offer concerts, food and wine events and year-round wine tasting. Napa Valley is also an epicenter and culinary showcase of fine gourmet foods and stellar restaurants and hotel accommodations, such as the Oxbow Public Market in the city of Napa, Yountville’s French Laundry Restaurant, or Rutherford’s Auberge du Soleil.

A marvelous thing happens as you travel Highway 101 through the spine of Sonoma County. The scenic journey takes you through a collection of small cities and towns that appear classically rural on the surface. Take an exit off the highway, explore a little, and one discovers restaurants, inns and conversation of cosmopolitan quality, missing only the pretension and the price. One of these fine towns is Geyserville, just an hour or so north of San Francisco. It’s a great California countryside day trip for sightseeing and picnicking, and an even better place for an overnight or weekend stay.
