!~San Diego Wine Fanatics~!

We had such an amazing time at our previous private wine tasting events that we decided to do it again.

Pinot Noir wine from Burgundy France has been one of the world’s most valued and enjoyed red wines for hundreds of years.

In 2004, to the majority of American wine consumers, Merlot was a red wine of major interest. It was on all tasting lists in bistros and wine bars.

Pinot Noir was mostly a niche wine grape.

Suddenly the book and movie “Sideways” caused a major uproar, and the reputation of Merlot fell as quickly as the sales and interest in Pinot Noir increased. Interest in the Sideways setting at wineries North of Santa Barbara continues to drive tourism there today.

Let’s explore the facts and half truths behind the decline of Merlot and the amazing rise of Pinot Noir.

We will taste both affordable and costly Pinot Noirs from the Central Coast and Oregon, and affordable and costly Merlots from California. You can make your own decision about them.

Join California Grapevine Newsletter Panelist and Wine Judge Brad Bruce for a tasting of wines from his judging and tasting experiences. If you arrive after we have started the presentation and tasting you will miss tasting the first wines. We will be outside on a patio, weather permitting.
The Cost: $15 to go towards the expenses of this event and the Wine Fanatics Meetup group.

When you RSVP you will automatically be placed on the WAIT LIST. You are moved to the ‘YES’ list ONLY after you have paid to attend the event. (READ the entire post!).

Please pay via PayPal to [masked]. NOTE! WHEN YOU PAY PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR MEETUP NAME. ESPECIALLY IF IT IS DIFFERENT FROM YOUR PAYPAL NAME. If multiple people have the same Meetup name (like ‘Tony’) I won’t know who to credit the payment to.

The goal of the evening is enjoyment, painless wine education and discussion. There will be time for socializing, gourmet snacks, and tasting interesting wines brought by attendees.

Note that there is a fixed limit of 26 attendees and that the cost is $15 per person.

Each attendee should bring either a wine friendly snack, a bottle of not your typical wine, or both. If bringing a wine, consider bringing a Merlot or a Pinot Noir.

A finger food snack to share such as cold boiled shrimp, rolled sandwiches, quality cheese and crackers, cold pasta salad, dips, sliced fruit, dried fruits, etc. NO REALLY SPICY FOODS. Please specify what you will bring when you RSVP.

How the attendee selection process will work:

1) EVERYONE initially goes on the wait list. The event is for a limited number of attendees due to the cost and limited availability of the wines to be presented.

2) ONLY paid people will be moved to the attending ‘YES’ list.

The location of the event will be sent to paid members prior to the event. It is in the vicinity of Aero Drive and 15.
