Showcasing the finest Australia has to offer in a Bordeaux blend, this Cab-Merlot is a real treat. The Margaret River is a region to watch and Watershed is amongst some of its best producers.
This wine has medium-intense colors of plum red wtih purple tints. The complex nose shows coffee, licorice, chocolate and sweet cherries, mixed with hints of nutmeg and cinnamon, white chocolate and mocha. The palate is driven by the Bordeaux varietals, but the small percentage of Shiraz adds sweetness and length. Sweet raspberry and cherry flavors lead into rich chocolate. A fine tannin structure balances the fruit and adds palate length. The wine finishes with lingering raspberries, coffee and chocolates. Ready for immediate enjoyment, this wine will mature well.

Region Description |
As with Bordeaux from the arguably the finest region in the world, the Medoc, this wine is powered by a healthy dose of Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by Merlot and Malbec with a spot of Shiraz to spice it up Aussie style. Western Australia is a region that’s on the rise—largely thanks to wineries like this one. Founded in 2001, Watershed was established with a goal of bringing wines to a higher level. One way it can do that is through the blessings Mother Nature has heaped on its location: the region’s premier appellation, Margaret River. With a Bordeaux-like climate hospitable to all major varieties, Margaret River is emerging as one of the great wine regions of the world. |

Food Pairings |
Serve with a steak or rack of lamb and a plate of cheese. Definitely keep this gem in mind when preparing Sunday roasts as the weather cools down. Hearty and earthy meats like venison can really shine here. Just coming into its own now, this wine will continue to benefit from aging. |
This quintessential Margaret River red blend comprises 71% Cabernet, 18% Merlot, 6% Shiraz and 5% Malbec. It’s the best of classic Bordeaux meets snazzy Western Australia.
An Extraordinary Value for a Premium Wine
The Margaret River Wine Region stretches from north to south for just about 75 miles. Although it is one of Australia’s largest wine regions, surprisingly it is responsible for less than 5% of the country’s grape production while producing more than 20% of Australia’s premium wines. The focus here is not cheap buys for the mass-market palate. Rather, the focus is on the sophisticated palate and the willingness to pay over $20 per bottle. Wine drinkers world-wide are discovering that Western Australia offers wines showcasing a unique style and excellent value.
A Fantastic Fusion of 2 Classic Wine Styles
Western Australian winemakers are proud of their stylish wines showcasing a level of complexity and elegance that can only be described as “non-Austalian-like.” Unlike your typical Australian reds which boast a higher level of alcohol and bold, ripe fruit flavors, this Cabernet blend is sleek with soft berry fruit flavors and a velvet-smooth mouthfeel. The Margaret River Region of Western Australia relishes a unique microclimate different from the rest of the country. Warm sunny days and cold, dry nights, render slow-ripening fruit making the region’s wines less like your typical Australian Cab. Instead, these wines boast a character and style that resembles a classic Bordeaux blend done with Australian savvy.
While we would hope our recommendation alone will convince you, we thought it might help to mention that this wine has already garnered two awards — a gold at the 2007 Mundis Vini Germany and a silver at the 2006 Mundis Vini, Germany. And, if you are truly an Australian wine fan, then it’s worth mentioning that renowned wine critic James Halliday, has awarded the winery five stars in his 2005 and 2007 Wine Companions.
