The Full Monty

"Not afraid to bare it all, this wine is completely “naked’ meaning it was made entirely without oak. The no-frills approach makes this French Chardonnay an elegant choice to accompany your dining experience."

Under Burgundy’s "cooperatives", thousands of tiny vineyards may have many owners. This concept gave way to the label for this wine, which literally means "vinegrowers of the secret soils." For this creation, 35 different vinegrowers scoured the hillsides for their best grapes and delivered their fruit to experienced winemaker Georges Brichon. What you get is the very best from all these vineyards combined into a single, elegant wine.

What you also get with a French Chardonnay is minimalism. The French look at oak in wine much like makeup on a woman. A little bit enhances natural beauty. Too much, and it's an obvious attempt to mask a flaw. With greater acidity, yet still soft and accessible, this 100% Chardonnay is the pure clean expression of the grape unfettered by oak. It's fantastic with roast turkey or fish and equally delightful all on its own.

Tasting Notes

Floral notes, not unlike acacia with a tinge of honey; honest and crisp, with fresh apple flavors and a hint of lemon. The attack in the mouth is aromatic honest and crisp with fresh apple flavors and a hint of lemon. Serve chilled.

Serving Suggestions

Serve lightly chilled as an aperitif, or with fish or white meat. A classic pairing with your holiday bird or turkey sausage. Can be good with goat cheese salad, too.

Pronunciation

“veen-yuh-RAWN deh tehr seh-CREHT ki pree-SAY may-COHN vee-LAJ”

Region Description

Where did this gem come from? The Maconnais region produces many notable whites derived from Chardonnay and is home to the famous Pouilly Fuiseé.

Details

In contrast to New World Chardonnays, this is a wine that is not as opulent, buttery, or oaky as you may be accustomed to. The French take a much subtler approach to their Chardonnay. And, by the way, they were producing unoaked Chardonnay long before the Aussies were calling it “naked”.

Careful cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks after malolactic fermentation and maturing on lees has resulted in a wine with fragrances of acacia and dried fruits that unfurl in the inviting bouquet opening up to a minerally freshness on the palate.

Other

As a “village wine”, this wine is a step above regular white burgundy and as implied by the designation “Macon Villages” in its name. Village wines are made entirely from grapes grown in a small, well-defined place in or around a particular village and in fact, can come from only one of 43 designated villages in the Macon region.
