Family patriarch Walter Schug was the winemaker at Phelps in the 1970s and 1980s. He had a particular passion for Pinot Noir having been raised drinking his father’s Pinots in Germany. He began making Pinot Noir for Phelps and then went off on his own to found his own family winery and continue producing the grape about which he is so passionate. “[This wine has] the powerful elegance of the finest white Burgundy. It has a ripe, spicy tropical bouquet with flavors that suggest citrus, pear and apple-butter. [It has] well-balanced acidity gives it a crisp, clean finish,” Michael Cox, winemaker.
