A supple blend of Revana's Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2008 vintage is opulent and well-balanced. Dark and dense in color, with aromas of lavender, cassis and earthy wild berry, this wine displays great depth. It boasts stunning concentration on the palate with dark cherry, cacao, coffee bean and a hint of caramel. Finishing with full-bodied tannins, this wine exhibits an undeniable finesse.
The 2007 Revana Cabernet placed 4th in Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2010 and scored an impressive 97 points.
For Revana Family Vineyard, the 2008 winegrowing season had its extremes: extreme cold, extremely low yields and extremely good Cabernet Sauvignon. Early 2008 was dry with very little rainfall through spring. In late April and early May, hard frosts hit the valley. It was so cold that Revana's frost protection systems were useless, and like much of Napa Valley, they experienced damage to the sensitive new growth on the vines.
The rest of the growing season was hot and dry from mid-May through August. The frost damage and low rainfall led to extremely low yields. Revana's total harvest was 40 percent lower than average. Fortunately, the low yields also translated into wines of great concentration, richness and purity.
Located in the heart of Napa Valley, Revana Family Vineyard is a vineyard and winery estate focused on producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. For Dr. Madaiah Revana, it is the culmination of his dream to grow and craft wines of exceptional quality.
In 1997, while visiting the Napa Valley, Dr. Revana discovered a small parcel of prime vineyard land just north of the town of St. Helena. He immediately sensed the property's potential. The area was already known for producing some of the world's most sought after Cabernet Sauvignon, and the property's gravelly soils, sloped pitch, and excellent exposures seemed perfect for growing grapes. Studies of the soil composition confirmed that it was an ideal location for premium Bordeaux varieties.
A native of Napa Valley, Heidi Peterson Barrett is famous for her ability to harness the richness and elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon. With twenty years of experience as a winemaker, and a lifetime of influence from her winemaker-father and artist-mother, Heidi has a unique perspective and understanding of the wines of Napa Valley.
Blending art and science, Heidi focuses on creating wines with a balance of refinement, ripe fruit flavors and a sense of the individual vineyards from which the wines come. Her long resume includes many of Napa Valley's most sought-after wines, including Barbour Vineyards, Dalla Valle, Grace Family, Jones Family, Paradigm and Screaming Eagle. Heidi also produces her own exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon for her winery, La Sirena.
For Revana Family, Heidi determines the precise time to harvest, when the grapes have reached their peak of flavor and balance. Heidi takes the masterfully farmed grapes and oversees every aspect of winemaking, from sorting the fruit to monitoring fermentations and determining when to press. The vineyard lots are kept separate through fermentation and barrel aging and in the end, Heidi determines which lots are best and selects those for the final blend of Revana Family Cabernet.
