An ancient Bordeaux blending varietal now popular in Chile, this 100% Carmenere (Cahr-mehn-AIR) exudes an intense red color. Carmenere, often confused for Merlot, exhibits a characteristic nose with notes of smoke and cold ash together with overripe red and blackfruit.
Perfect aging in French oak barrels for 10 months has resulted in a smooth and rounded wine that is beyond description. This wine is unfiltered for pure enjoyment.

"Garnet purple color. Cigar box, sandalwood, blackberry, and herbal marinated pepper aromas follow through on a soft, round entry to a dryish medium body with good depth and a tangy blood orange, cinnamon stick, and clove fade. Interesting and reminiscent of sangria." (11/14/2008)
Region Notes
The Maule Valley lies in the southern most section of Chile's Central Valley. Winemaking here dates back to the times of Spanish colonization and became increasingly popular in the mid-1980's with the growth in the wine industry.

Carmenere is not the first grape variety that springs to mind, but when I think of Chile it is. A refreshingly original set of flavours that I love. Big, bold and intense fruit flavours with a smoky, exotic background, make this a real treat.
