With the 2007 Loxarel, Ops, D, unfiltered Tempranillo/Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend from Penedes, you’ll see how the Spanish have achieved greatness from this area known for its Cabs, while still respecting tradition. At under $15 for this much quality, it’s a wine that sells like it’s free.

This release from the noteworthy Penedes region strays a little from the traditional Spanish red formula. Cabernet Sauvignon tempered by a dose of Merlot firms up this Tempranillo-based red. Boasting fruity licorice, leather, tobacco and smoky aromas, it delivers super-rich berry fruit balanced by toasted vanilla oak in the mouth. Ripe tannins are persistent, yet smooth. Overall, a welcoming wine with an appealing character.

Can Mayol estate is located in the Penedès region, and it is the base for the production of our wines. Year after year, it gives us the raw material to make our own wines and cavas. Its grapes are the Penedès autochthon varieties: Macabeu, Xarel·lo and Parellada, although in recent years we have introduced new varieties in our plantation such as Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir and so on.
