Likely the world’s most popular varietal, Chardonnay flourishes across the globe but is particularly well-suited to several California appellations. Of French origin, Chardonnay was a leader when varietal wines first took hold in the United States more than 30 years ago, and today it remains the predominant white wine of choice for American consumers.
The nose is fragrant and delightful, with aromas of tropical fruit, peach and pear. Flavors of green apple, pineapple and guava, with notes of citrus and vanilla, are carried to a clean finish by a thread of bright acidity. This wine is delicious sipped on its own but also pairs well with seafood appetizers such as oysters or crab cakes. For an entrée, try halibut with a lemon-butter sauce or roasted turkey.
