Wine Specs

Vintage 2005
Varietal Cabernet Sauvignon
Appellation Napa Valley

In 1979, the three original owners (Sacri, Craig and Sherwin) took the first few letters of their last names and created "Sacrashe" Vineyard. It is situated high above Auberge du Soleil in the eastern Rutherford appellation at 750-800 feet elevation. The vineyard is hidden behind groves of century old oaks and clusters of manzanita brush. The growing conditions are tough due to rocks and tufa (solidified volcanic ash), limiting the vines' vigor and crop yields (1.8 tons per acre), but offering explosive flavors and concentration. A vineyard manager's nightmare turns into a winemaker's dream, as the small berries are loaded with intense flavors and tannin, ultimately producing our most extravagant Cabernet.

A potent nose loaded with mineral and graphite components, liquorice, vanilla, fresh rose petal, dark-roast coffee beans, creamy orange (ice cream), and nutmeg. After a few minutes the nose comes full circle and focuses on the minerality again. The mouth is surprisingly gentle, the tannins are fully saturated, the structure is big, tall, and chewy. It is as complex as the nose, with a perfect balance and voluptuous mouth-feel, extremely long and lasting aftertaste. A wolf in sheep’s clothing!
