Vintage 2006
Varietal Cabernet Sauvignon
Appellation Napa Valley

The estate wines of Crocker & Starr flag the resurrection of an 1870’s winery in the small town of St. Helena. Our commitment to sustainable and organic farming techniques coupled with cutting edge winemaking tools and guided by expert hands have combined the best of  both old world philosophy and new world fruit. This estate has been uninterrupted farmland as far back as the 1870’s and spans over 100 acres of the gorgeous St. Helena Appellation. Charlie Crocker and Pam Starr have been partners in the creation of great wines since 1997.

Our philosophy at Crocker & Starr is to capture the greatness of the Crocker Vineyard in powerful and balanced wines without compromise. We strive to set the bar for St Helena Appellation Cabernets as would a First Growth Bordeaux Chateau.

The 2006 Cabernet is the 10th Anniversary offering of what was originally named “Stone Place”. The power and intensity is captured in this beautiful bottle of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Reflecting on our first decade, the spotlight is on our organic and sustainable farming efforts which brought strength and balance to the estate old vines, establishing the evolution of our icon wine – Stone Place. Our second decade begins with the new face of this wine now called Cabernet Sauvignon. We invite you to continue your journey with Crocker & Starr as we continue to grow through the ages.

TENTH VINTAGE RELEASE
2006 Cabernet Sauvignon “Stone Place”, Estate Old Vines Organically Grown

Wine Profile

Tasting Notes Dark and dense in the rim of the glass. Aromas of black cherries, black berries, chocolate, brown spices, truffle and earth. The palate continues to evolve to incorporate cola, tobacco, leather and baking chocolate covered espresso beans. Flavors of just ripe blackberry with a heavy dose of boysenberry, cinnamon, clove and French vanilla start to intermingle. Silky and dense tannins and oak structure extend the rich Cabernet mouthfeel. Approachable and ageworthy.
Production Notes The 2006 growing season began with extreme rainfall upon the arrival of the New Year. A very cool spring delayed bud break well into May however June allowed the vines to develop and offer a beautiful cluster set. A longer than normal heat spike in July was followed by a cooler August which provided the grapes extended hang time and hence allowing slow but steady flavor development and ripening.
Winemaker Notes Winemaking: Cold soak must and post fermentation maceration techniques were applied to various lots of estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Barrel aged for twenty months in seventy five percent new French oak. Minimal rackings, no fining nor filtration. Bottled aged for one year pre-release.
