Couloir Wines expresses the nuance and varietal character of Pinot noir planted in different appellations, on different soils, in different climates. The winemaking procedures are deliberately minimal; recognizing that the right grape in the right vineyard can produce wines of great character and expression. The intention is to support the wines while they convey their unique place of origin, vintage and variety.
The Anderson Valley is located in the rolling hills of the coastal region of Mendocino County, about two hours north of San Francisco and known for our world class Pinot Noir and Alsace Varietals. This is where the grapes for the 2007 Roma's Vineyard come from.
Located on a mountaintop ridge overlooking the heart of Anderson Valley at 1850 feet, Roma’s Vineyard is perfectly situated to take full advantage of the warm sun and cooler daytime temperatures. Winemaker Jon Grant employed ancient winemaking techniques to produce this California Pinot noir with European inspiration and style.
Tasting Notes
Profound aromas of black cherry, dark cocoa, Royal Penny mint, earth and mineral emanate from this succulent Pinot noir. The palate exhibits a lovely weight and elegant texture; fine tannins with a medium-high nerve of acidity, keep the wine defined and balanced. Notes of juicy black and red cherry, purple plum, dark earth and a complex minerality extend well into the long, lingering length.
