Bursting to life with the first splash into the glass, the Copa del Rey Cabernet Sauvignon was made from a short crop of high-quality Chilean grapes. The fusion of Chilean fruit, climate and terroir combined with the New World style of this wine, results in a level of quality at an unmatched price.
Smooth and soft in the mouth with aromas of fig, cherry compote and bold dark fruit aromas, this is a wine unlike typical Chilean Cabernets. Integrated tannins, and a memorable thread of acidity through the finish, round out this stylized wine. Enjoy this Cabernet Sauvignon with spiced fresh seafood or savory grilled meats.
Hahn's winemakers worked in Chile to craft the Copa del Rey Cabernet from the vineyard to the bottle. The latest New World winemaking techniques were employed to bring out the best of the unique terroir of the famed Colchagua Valley.
In the vineyard, extra hang-time allowed the grapes to reach full physiological ripeness, developing great intensity, depth and structure. In the cellar, French oak added complexity, body and flavor and Hahn's unique micro-oxygenation treatment was used to soften the tannins and create a rich, round mouth-feel. The wine also benefitted from the latest fining and filtration techniques, which bring forth the full expression of fruit.
The abundant wine region of Chile is agriculturally rich, and its many appellations are emphasized by moderate climates, varied terrain and deep, rich soils: all ideal for producing world class wines. Colchagua Valley is a small, high-quality sub-region of the Rapel Valley.
A coastally-influenced Mediterranean climate found only in a few places in the world is unique to the Colchagua Valley. Abundant sunshine, adequate winter rainfall and mild winters make this a prime winegrowing region. The Copa del Rey Cabernet is grown in the Peralillo Vineyard in this distinctive appellation, where the grapes thrive in the volcanic, sandy loam soils.
Subjects of European kings planted vines wherever they traveled. Today, these plantings have resulted in some of the finest vineyards in the greatest wine-producing countries of the world. Without exception, the finest wines from these vineyards were reserved for the copa del rey, "the cup of the king."

The Hahn family, who has been making wine in California for more than 30 years with a proven track record of successful wine brands such as Hahn Estates and Cycles Gladiator, has partnered with the Canavaggio family to make the premium Chilean wines of Copa del Rey. Utilizing the resources of well-known Chilean vintners Ventisquero, the first releases of Copa del Rey include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Merlot from three of Chile’s top appellations: The Rapel, Maipo and Colchagua Valleys. Ventisquero is certified sustainable and APL certified, a voluntary Chilean environmental management agreement.
Wines from Chile are made from grapes that have a long, even growing season and the luxury of hang-time and extended ripening on the vine. In the glass, fruit-driven wines emerge. Juan Jose Verdina, a member of the Hahn winemaking team, led production of the new Copa del Rey wines from vineyard to the bottle. These wines make the most of Chile’s natural abundance while employing innovative New World vineyard and winery techniques ranging from vertical shoot positioning and longer hang-time in the vineyard, to malolactic fermentation, lees stirring and French oak treatment in the cellar. The result are complex, lush and exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of each appellation.
