This Premium Rhône Will Awaken Your Senses
An alternative to Châteauneuf-du-Pape at a fraction of the price! The dark intensity and earthiness of a premium Vacqueyras calls for fromage or a grilled T-bone, medium rare duck, or lamb with herbs. The southern French refer to “garigue” (pronounced geh-REEG) as the smell of the land itself – a unique flavor of Rhône and Provence reminiscent of the earth and characterized by wild thyme, rosemary, and dried brush overlaid with classic black currants, pepper and blueberries.
This premium Rhône is a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre. It exudes fresh, expressive aromas and flavors of red fruits, blueberries and spices ending on a licorice note. Good structure, but not too heavy.
"very good", Parker
"The 2006 Vacqueyras, again aged in concrete tanks, is a deliciously fruite wine with excellent texture, plenty of Provencal herbs, sweet cherries, and plums. The wine is medium-bodied, very savory, and best drunk over the next 5-6 years."

I was introduced to this wine via the WSJ International Edition. The article left me wanting to try it. It is smooth and long on finish with a hint of smoked berry. A great bottle to be enjoyed with a meal or with appetizers. It will not disappoint.
