Bargetto Winery
Brothers Philip and John Bargetto were two vintners who believed in the Santa Cruz Mountains as a world-class winegrowing region. At the turn of the century, they emigrated from the famous mountainous winegrowing region of Piedmont, Italy. On the day Prohibition was repealed (Dec. 5, 1933) they founded Bargetto Winery.

The Bargetto family winemaking heritage continued with John's son, Lawrence, who during the 1960's and 70's introduced stainless steel fermentation and added production of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Today, Bargetto Winery stands as the California winery with the longest tradition of producing fine wines in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
They have continued their pioneering spirit and established a new vineyard in southern Santa Cruz County, where they planted Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Noir. In keeping with the family heritage, they also experiment with some northern Italian red varietals. Bargetto produces Cabernet, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot, Gewurtztraminer and an interesting line of 100% pure fruit dessert wines (olallieberry, plum, apricot, raspberry) under the Chaucer label.
